CHRISTMAS PUNCH by Lacey Shoaf

2 c. sugar

6 oz jello (strawberry)

1 can pineapple juice

6 c. water

2/3 c. lemon juice

1 qt. orange juice

7-Up

Boil sugar, water and jello for 3 min. Reduce heat. Add juices.

Freeze in small amounts. Add 7-up to frozen punch in punch bowl.

I feel much more like cooking on these chilly, winterish (even though it's fall) evenings. And there is nothing better than the warmth of the oven and the smell and the taste of our PEACH CRUNCH DESSERT, submitted by Jean Teeple in our recipe/memory book. We sold out of our first 50, and have recieved more-- think Christmas gifts!!

Very Easy (my style) and Very Tasty:

2- 29 oz. cans peaches (drain 1 can)

1 butter brickle or yellow cake mix (dry)

1 stick oleo

optional - 1 cup nuts

Preheat oven to 350°. Grease a 9x13 pan. Pour peaches in pan; cover with dry cke mix. Melt butter and drizzle over cake mix. Sprinkle with nuts and bake 1 hour.

These clocks are so... cute! They are only about 5" in diameter and have a magnet on the back, but can be hung also. If you haven't seen them the candle holders that fit in a Mason jar are super fun. Add a battery taper and you have a great little glowing lamp.

Well the weather seems to be the topic these days. As I write it is 85 and looks like the rain is coming again. Unusual for me, I haven't planted many flowers yet...but anxious to do so!! Easter and Mother's Day have come and gone, and now come Memorial Day, Graduations, etc. Always something to plan for and look forward to. We are sharing a recipe submitted from the kitchen of Debbie Butcher, Decatur that will be in our Decatur 175 Family and Friends cookbook (available this later). Thought you might want to try it for your Easter Dinner!

COCONUT CREAM PIE

For Filling:

2 cups milk

1 cup sugar

Bring to a boil.

1/3 cup plus 1 tsp. cornstarch

1/2 cup milk

4 egg yolks

Mix together and add to boiling milk. Stir till thick.

Remove from heat and add:

3 T. butter

1 t. vanilla

To assemble Pie: Prepare a baked pie shell then add to vanilla pudding (above) 1 1/2 cups of coconut, or more if you like a lot of coconut in your filling. Pour filling into the pie shell and layer the top with Rich's Whip Topping or Cool Whip.

To Garnish: Toast 1 cup of coconut in microwave and let cool down. Then sprinkle over the top of whip topping.

We have taken twigs from the yard, spray painted them cream, and then placed them in a glass jar filled with white beans. On top of the beans we put easter grass. On our branches we hung vintage, mecury bulbs and ornaments in green, pink and silver!
Would make a great centerpiece for any table and could be used all spring. The picture is not good so stop by and check it out.

We are passing on a recipe shared by Colonial Tin Works (where we purchase a lot of our iron items) We are anxious to try it- if you do let us know how it worked!

MAPLE SNOW TREATS

Gather fresh snow from outside, take it inside (keep it from melting!) and boil some maple syrup.

It needs to be real maple syrup.

Add 1 tablespoon of butter and stir until melted. Keep stirring for 6-7 minutes so it doesn't boil over. (You'll know it's ready when the syrup mix starts to from hard balls when it drips off the spoon.) Remove from heat. While the syrup mixture is cooling for a few minutes, run outside and fill several plates or roasting pans with snow. Bring in and drizzle spoonfuls

of the syrup mixture over the snow.

The result: taffy-like maple candy, just like they made in

Laura Ingalls Wilder's "Little House in the Big Woods."

I love tulips, and it's something I am looking forward to as well as SPRING. So this picture is one of my favorites! It's one of the items that we brought home from the shows. The little rakes could be decorated for a wall hanging or just hung on the garden fence, etc. Our new baskets will also work in the garden scene or in the real garden- Oh I can't wait...

Tommorrow my daughter and I are looking forward to going on a buying trip, it's always a fun time. Hoping the snowfall holds off till we are home. The bigger shows will be in March but I'm sure we will come back with some new goodies, and maybe get a feel for what's going to be big in 2011. Can you believe Jan. is almost half over? Here is a recipe that sounds like a winner for the family on these cold, dark nights. Submitted by Judy Wagner (thanks Judy)

Family Beans-n-Franks

1- 16 oz. can pork and beans

1 1/2 c. frozen hash browns with onions

1/2 lb. hot dogs cut- up

1/2 c. ketchup

1/2 lb. velveeta cheese- cubed

Combine, mix lightly.

Bake at 375 for 25 minutes

Yield 4 Servings

I like mixing old and new, past and present accents in my home. So this frame that just came in is something I may be taking home. I love the rustic look and we have a new family picture by the way. Sure helps to have a photographer in the family (I won't tell you how many head swaps she made). For some reason she would rather take others pictures than us! Can't imagine why...

Well, Christmas has come and gone for another year. The New Year has begun. It's the time of year a lot of us think about making changes; different eating habits, cleaning out our closets, downsizing and prioritizing to 'SIMPLIFY' our lives. As I put away the Holiday decor (which I wasn't in a rush to do this year) I am determined to make some decorating changes. It's easy to let my home slide while keeping the shoppe 'new and changed up'. Sometimes it's just a few minor changes that can change the atmosphere or give rooms a new look. One thing I like for storage is baskets. While I like the looks of them, they can also be functional; holding books, towels, etc. We recently recieved some here at the shoppe. It'll soon be time to change up the greens from pines and spruces to more 'spring' greens.

I know some of you are very gifted bakers. I bake excellent Christmas cutout cookies! My secret? Purchase the frozen ones at Gordons (on sale for $9.99) bake and let grandkids frost. Sorry, but they are so GOOOD! The women in our family get together for a bake night usually before Christmas and share our goodies. This recipe was turned in by Sherri Moon at our open house. Sounds like a winner-

No Bake Cookie Balls

1 C. (16 oz.) semisweet chocolate chips

3 C. Confectioner's sugar

1 3/4 C. crushed Vanilla Wafers (about 5 wafers)

1 C. chopped walnuts toasted

1/3 C. orange juice

3 Tbs. light corn syrup

Additional confectioners sugar

1.) In large bowl melt the chocolate chips in microwave. Stir until smooth. Stir in the sugar, vanilla wafer crumbs, walnuts, OJ and corn syrup.

2.) Roll into 1 inch balls; roll the balls in additional confectioners sugar. Store in airtight container.
