I recently repainted our office at home and was pleased with the outcome. I have beadboard up so high and then painted black above to look like a chalkboard, then used one of our vinyl quotes.

Not done with this wall, plan to add b&w pictures of 'memories',

 AND get my hubby to clean shelf!
